Dogs and cats are considered adults between the ages of 1 and 7 years.
During this life stage, most individuals will be relatively free of
disease. Their bodies have usually developed fully and their immune
systems are normally strong. Maintenance for this period involves a
once a year physical examination along with minimal health screening
tests to establish a baseline of normalcy data for each individual.
Periodic vaccination boosters are given based on individual risk
assessment. Parasite control measures and basic hygiene are important.
By the end of this life stage, dogs and cats will be approaching an age
comparable to a 50 year old human.
